Meet the Team

Kelsey Thompson AIFD, CFD

Kelsey is the owner and designer at Bloom which opened in June of 2011. Her goal is to serve the Algona area with the best and freshest products and creative ideas. She is proud of the Bloom staff and strives to provide a fulfilling work environment and a career creating for/serving people. Kelsey is a nationally accredited designer and a member of the Iowa Florists' Association. She loves linear design and lots of texture. Passionate about the designing and teaching process, she’s constantly pushing her career in the floral industry forward.

Becca Phillips

Becca has been with Bloom since 2013. She came in with an artist's eye for detail and quickly excelled at floral design. She works full-time as the shop manager as well as handling the billing and doing a large portion of fresh product and gift management/ordering! Becca also travels to market every year to help choose the home decor/holiday merchandise for the sales floor. She is an on-point trend forecaster and a self-motivated learner. She has an amazing memory (yes, she’ll probably remember what you ordered your mom for her birthday in 2016) and excels at customer service and care. Becca loves bright tropical flowers and funky greenery, and her favored design style runs more modern. Her favorite part of the job is meeting new people and getting to be creative every day.

Deanne Brace

Deanne Brace is our resident plant guru and the shop "mom." She can fix any sort of hardware, get out any stain, and could probably hot wire a car...but she's much too sweet to do something like that! Deanne has been at Bloom since 2013 and in the floral industry for 43 years. Deanne loves all things sparkly and has a lovely singing voice, can make a dozen roses in 2.6 minutes and gives really amazing hugs. Her favorite flowers include pink mink protea, hydrangeas and ginger! Her smile and warm personality will definitely make your day!

Sarah Mayer

Sarah Mayer is a "Jill-of-all-trades" that has been with Bloom since May of 2018. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design from ISU and is our resident retail floor guru! Sarah spent time in Italy and Portland before returning to her hometown area. She also works as a freelance designer for her own business, Phoenix Home Studio in the areas of custom furniture upholstery graphic design, home decor, event management and styling and more! Sarah has a welcoming, open-minded and outgoing character and an infectious laugh. In floral design, Sarah's style is a more natural look. She loves the "Dutch Painting" style of bouquets and her favorite flower is ranunculus. Her intuition for color is always spot-on and her styling skills are invaluable - next time you stop in with a house project make sure you pick her brain!

Kate Mayer

Kate Mayer has been at Bloom part time since the fall of 2017. Formally Radiology Technician for 35+ years, performing thousands of mammograms in her time! In her "retirement" she works here at Bloom keeping our floor displays looking on trend as well as designing silks and fresh. Kate is always willing to step in and take on a task or delivery that we need done! She seems to know everyone that walks through the door and always has a kind word. Her favorite flowers are textural garden varieties...astilbe, lisianthus and all varieties of eucalyptus greens. She says anything that is tiny headed can change the mood and feeling of an arrangement! Kate's favorite part of working at Bloom is that it is always a fun and exciting challenge. She has impeccable taste and is a color combo wizard with a creative soul. Kate is an open, caring person who is generous with both her time and words of wisdom.

You are responsible for choosing the ribbon colors in your corsage. If you'd like to view more ribbon options, please stop in to Bloom. We cannot be responsible for event cancellations. If your event is cancelled we will work with you as best we can to adjust or replace flowers.

Care and Materials

We try our absolute best to keep our cooler stocked with the florals shown on our site. We are also very picky about using the freshest flowers available. There may be times when we'll have to substitute the varieties in your bouquet. Our first priority is to fill your order to the full value (or more!). Variety type is given second priority (for example, we'll sub a pink rose for a yellow). Our third consideration is color - if you're ordering a "baby boy" arrangement we'll sub flowers that keep the style of the bouquet. If you have special request, please reach out prior to placing the order to check availability!

Proper care of your fresh flowers can make a big difference in how long your bouquet lasts! We often have customers get 1-2 weeks of enjoyment out of their flowers because they do 3 simple things:

1 - Water. Make sure your vessel has water in it! We recommend a daily top-off, plus completely changing out the water for fresh every 3 days.

2 - Stem treatment. If any foliage or blooms have fallen into the water, clean it out. Give your stems a fresh cut on day 4 (just the bottom inch is fine) and day 8.

3 - Environment. We love to curl up in a warm sunny spot, but your flowers don't. Keep them away from heat sources, diffusers/candles and any curious pets.

Your flowers are hand-designed right here in Algona, Iowa. We work hard to source the freshest product and have invested in the best training in flower care, handling and design. Our certified designers will custom-create your bouquet for your recipient with love.

We guarantee our flowers with a full exchange or refund up to 48 hours after delivery. Care and environment plays a huge role in flower longevity (see our care tips above!) so we cannot guarantee the life of your fresh cut flowers after that point. Partial exchanges will be handled on a case-by-case basis. We DO want you to be happy, so if you have any questions or concerns at any point.... even a week later.... please contact us!
